I tell you what, the Leeds Salford and the Wakey Hudds games were blo*dy dreadful adverts for SL... absolute bore fests and poor quality games.. watched some highlights of the Wakey game, it was an appalling spectacle for TV... no crowd, very one sided, poor standard of RL.. awful.
And that's why we should be very cautious about moving to 14 teams. I know 13 home games against different teams would be a big tick in the box for supporters (including me) but the novelty would soon wear off if 4 of those games were 40 or 50 point blow outs. Personally I think that if you want to raise standards you actually lower the current number of participating teams, to 11, which would provide a 21 game SL including a magic round. You could add another 3 home games by incorporating another Cup Comp (early season) perhaps on a conference basis, with championship clubs included, which would be free to season ticket holders. Why would supporters only want 21 games a season ? The whole idea of spectator sport is that the speccies work hard all week and then have something to watch and look forward on a regular basis. The more regular, the better. It ‘s time to stop kidding ourselves that everything should be aimed at a small number of pro teams prospering while the rest can go and wither on the vine. The R.F.L have done a great job of destroying the amateur game which has in turn led to a decline in professional standards, and for a long time seemed intent on destroying some of the “smaller” clubs in the professional game. Give the like’s of York and Fev a go and let their fans have a taste of the big time or at least the chance to dream. Superleague has become stale and boring for the best part, but this season has been a breath of fresh air seeing more competitive teams. The lower standard overall hasn’t bothered me one bit. There still ways of giving spectators 27/28 games, without diluting the standard of the competition further, it might just have take a little more effort and imagination from the powers that be. Anyway,we are where we are now with an extra 2 clubs, possibly 3, if Salford don't make it, for 26. Good luck to those teams in trying to build a squad, without the SKY money that the existing SL clubs will not want to share. Surely a better way to build is to do it from a position of strength, which has been the NRL way. By comparison our approach is built on a house of cards, which will fall over with the first faint gust of wind.

Apparently, Sky aren't happy about having to broadcast an extra game that they haven't paid for. Honestly, the lack of foresight and professionalism within RL is an embarrassment. How can we ever hope to attract sponsors and broadcasters when there's no stability or professionalism.
There's been next to no communication from the people involved in this apart from the standard line of the game is losing money and we need a governing body who is sympathetic to the people with actual 'skin in the game'.
The only way this changes is if someone comes along with enough cash to buy the whole thing, or things get so bad, the owners will have no choice but to sell to the NRL for a cut price (I suspect this is what the NRL actually wants).
I'm also a bit disappointed with Hetherington and his part in all of this. I mean he's voted for this as CEO of the Rhinos whilst being the majority owner of The Broncos. There's so much wrong with all of this, I mean it doesn't give you a good hand to play with your Main Broadcaster when you suddenly change the terms of the deal without consulting them, what confidence does that give them to give us a better deal next time.

Or indeed any broadcaster who may have been looking to enter the market. Doubtful, I know, but the way the game continues to be run is precisely why there is little to no interest in a halfway competitive tv deal. There is zero strategy in play, IMG were brought in to bring just that, but as soon as it didn't align with the prevailing views they have been marginalised. To compound matters, not only don't we have a well planned programme to grow the game and improve the quality, we don't even have the stability that should be the default corollary of "no change". Rushed changes with zero thought as to how they will be implemented, bringing more chaos and confusion, is hardly the blueprint for growing anything successfully.

Yep pretty cynical of GH, but probably smart. He knows that London are likely to be a key part of TV deal for any governing body (especially the NRL) or broadcaster who has eyes on a wider market. If they are already in a pre-existing European elite league it's a far easier job to stay there.

Losing Magic Weekend doesn't make any sense. What's the reasoning behind that (if confirmed)?
Because it would create a loop fixture with a 14 team league. This whole thing is tin pot and a farce. 14 teams is a great shout, but not this soon, and picking the top 12 from IMG system then handpicking the other 2 teams is as I say tin pot. The Coup bringing Wood back, Hetherington going to London, the overseas quota increasing, the teams increasing with no plan whatsoever and nobody coming out and outlining why it's been done now. It all stinks to high heaven, we will not progress as a sport when its in the hands of self serving clubs. It is almost beyond belief that a cash poor sport would pay over £328,000 to get a man out the door and then within 8 years he’s invited back to run the show again. The year that Nigel Wood left he oversaw a £2,000,000 loss, of which his pay off was a big chunk. How can we believe the sport is in safe hands with any kind of future in the wake of events like this ?.

| The solution to magic weekend is simple. Treat the Vegas game as a magic fixture, then let those two teams play the regular round fixture on the Friday night before Magic So you still have 2 days of three games each and neither of the Vegas teams has to sacrifice a home game.
Example
Vegas fixture is week 3, Magic weekend is week 12
Hull KR & Leeds play the week 12 fixture in Vegas on week 3 They then play the week 3 fixture on the Friday night of week 12
